What happens during an initial consultation?
At the start of the first session, we will discuss in detail the issue which has brought you to physiotherapy. We will also chat about your past medical history, any surgeries, allergies etc.
Following this, a physical assessment will take place. This will look at posture, general movement and mobility, followed by a specific hands-on assessment of the bony pelvis, hips, lower and mid-back, ribcage, abdomen as indicated.
Towards the end of the assessment, an internal vaginal examination may be performed. This is helpful in determining the tone, strength and quality of the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding tissues. It also is helpful in assessing the position of the pelvic organs such as the bladder, the bowel and the uterus. This is never mandatory. A client may decide during the session that they do not feel comfortable to go ahead with the examination. If a client requests, they may have a chaperone present for the vaginal examination.
Upon completion of the assessment, a treatment plan will be devised with the client, which will typically contain a home exercise programme among other elements.on goes here

Chronic pelvic pain or pain during intercourse.
Frequent, sudden urges to use the restroom.
